Kinexus is seeking an experienced Senior Naval Architect to join a high-profile Defence program focused on platform integration and engineering change remediation across multiple RAN Platforms. This is your opportunity to lead structural and hull engineering work on some of Australia's most critical naval platforms.

Working within a multi-disciplinary technical team, you'll provide expert leadership in structural design, hull preservation, RAS systems, and aviation facilities-ensuring projects meet all regulatory and technical requirements from concept through to delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Leadership & Governance: Provide leadership in ship hull and structures engineering and establish governance frameworks to guide integration and remediation work.
  • Engineering Delivery: Oversee and manage engineering change activities, ensuring technical compliance with Defence regulations and SPO Engineering Delivery processes.
  • Technical Investigations: Conduct investigations into structural problems, aviation facilities, and replenishment-at-sea (RAS) systems.
  • Project Assurance: Ensure technical risk is identified, managed, and documented throughout project stages; review artefacts and deliverables to ensure compliance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams and external subcontractors to meet project goals and deliver technical excellence.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Technical Qualifications: Degree in Naval Architecture or a related engineering discipline.
  • Naval Platform Expertise: High-level understanding of ship hull and structures, structural design practices, and design considerations for fatigue, shock, vibration, and sea loads.
  • Classification Knowledge: In-depth familiarity with LR (Lloyd's Register) classification rules and ADF regulatory frameworks.
  • Practical Know-How: Strong knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication methods, including welding, surface preparation, and hull preservation techniques.
  • Communication & Teamwork: Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously or collaboratively within project teams.
  • Stakeholder Relationship Management: Strong capability to build and maintain trusted relationships with key Defence and contractor stakeholders.
  • Security Clearance: Must be an Australian citizen with an active NV1 security clearance, and eligible for ITAR compliance.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • Australian Citizenship: Required due to the nature of Defence work.
  • NV1 Security Clearance: Must hold a current NV1 Defence clearance.
  • ITAR Compliance: Must be eligible to be cleared under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
