Kinexus is seeking an experienced Commercial Officer based in Cairns. This six-month initial contract, commencing January 2025, offers the opportunity to lead commercial activities and contribute to key Defence procurement and sustainment projects.

As the Commercial Officer, you'll be responsible for ensuring compliance with procurement legislation, maintaining schedules, and aligning financial and commercial processes with engineering and sustainment resources. Your expertise will drive efficient service delivery and support Defence's critical seaworthiness remediation efforts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and guide a team, setting clear performance standards, delegating responsibilities, and fostering professional development.
  • Oversee allocated resources, prioritise work areas, develop strategies, and evaluate business outcomes.
  • Plan and execute procurement activities, including developing tender documents, Section 23s, endorsement briefs, and contract formation, ensuring compliance with Defence legislation and policies.
  • Develop commercially sensitive procurement-related documents, such as risk and performance reviews, templates, and strategies, to support contract management outcomes.
  • Provide guidance on procurement policies, contract management, and Defence-specific commercial requirements, ensuring timely and efficient outcomes.
  • Administer and monitor contracts to evaluate performance and mitigate risks, taking action as necessary to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Offer training and guidance to team members on commercial and procurement processes, fostering knowledge sharing and collaboration.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Diploma-level qualifications or higher in contract management, commercial law, financial management, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with Defence procurement, including ASDEFCON contracting templates, and the ability to provide commercial advice and guidance.
  • Familiarity with processes in accordance with the PGPA Act and related Defence frameworks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, set performance standards, and promote a collaborative work environment aligned with Defence values.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to maintain positive relationships across organisations.
  • Previous experience working within a Defence Systems Program Office (SPO) environment is highly desirable.
