These opportunities do not have the ability to obtain sponsorship for a security clearance (including applicants who currently hold a security clearance seeking to upgrade).
ABOUT THIS ROLE
Business Architects design and evolve business capabilities in line with the organisation strategy.
This position has responsibility for leading design activities and implementation oversight in alignment with ASD architectural guidance principles, supporting significant business and technological change.

Location of work: ACT
Working arrangements: ACT, 5 days a week in the office. Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement. Candidates required to have PV clearance.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Accountable for managing allocated resources, setting work area priorities, managing workflows, developing strategies and evaluating business outcomes.
- Accountable for accurate completion of work within timeframes and quality requirements, share own expertise with others and guide and mentor less experiences employees.
- Provide clear direction and establish requirements for the implementation of significant changes in business functions and processes, organisational roles and responsibilities and scope or nature of ICT service delivery.
- Manage and monitor compliance between business strategies, enterprise transformation activities and technology directions by setting strategies, policies, standards and practices.
- Research, specify, analyse and evaluate ICT Defence domains and best practice in ICT systems development to meet business outcomes.
- Has expertise in current functionality of ICT systems, quality assurance practices and business processes and develop an understanding of emerging technologies.
- Work collaboratively and engage with internal and external stakeholders to transfer and collect information and gain consensus on concepts and business domains.
- Build and sustain relationships and liaise with a range of stakeholders including other teams, peers and colleagues across Defence and other organisations.
- Investigate, recommend and implement solutions for a range of unpredictable problems involving participation in the development of strategic initiatives.
- Evaluate the financial, cultural, technological, organisational and environmental factors which must be addressed in ICT change programmes.
- Identify alternative solutions, assess feasibility and recommend new approaches to deliver agreed outcomes.
TECHNICAL SKILLS
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. Ideally, majors include Computer Science, or Information Technology Management.
- Experience in modelling business processes by using various tools and techniques.
- Experience with enterprise architecture modelling tools
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
Essential criteria
- Conducts advanced modelling activities for significant change programmes and across multiple business functions. Has in-depth knowledge of organisation-specific techniques. Plans own modelling activities, selecting appropriate techniques and the correct level of detail for meeting assigned objectives. May contribute to discussions about the choice of modelling approach. Obtains input from and communicates modelling results to senior managers for agreement.
- Plans and leads strategic, large and complex business process improvement activities aligned with automation, or exploiting existing or new technologies. Develops organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for business process improvement. Leads the introduction of techniques, methodologies and tools to meet business requirements, ensuring consistency across all user groups. Leads the development of organisational capabilities for business process improvement and ensures adoption and adherence to policies and standards.
- Takes responsibility for understanding client requirements, collecting data, delivering analysis and problem resolution. Identifies, evaluates and recommends options. Collaborates with, and facilitates stakeholder groups, as part of formal or informal consultancy agreements. Seeks to fully address client needs and implements solutions if required. Enhances the capabilities and effectiveness of clients, by ensuring that proposed solutions are fully understood and appropriately exploited.
- Supports monitoring of the external environment and assessment of emerging technologies. Contributes to the creation of reports, technology road-mapping and the sharing of knowledge and insights.
- Develops models and plans to drive the execution of the business strategy, taking advantage of opportunities to improve business performance. Contributes to creating and reviewing a systems capability strategy which meets the business's strategic requirements. Determines requirements and specifies effective business processes, through improvements in technology, information or data practices, organisation, roles, procedures and equipment.
- Deals with problems and issues, managing resolutions, corrective actions, lessons learned, and the collection and dissemination of relevant information. Implements stakeholder engagement/communications plan. Collects and uses feedback from customers and stakeholders to help measure the effectiveness of stakeholder management. Helps develop and enhance customer and stakeholder relationships.
- Australian Citizenship and a TSPV security clearance is essential
Desirable criteria
- Plans and drives scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for large, complex initiatives. Selects, adopts and adapts appropriate requirements definition and management methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to the development of organisational methods and standards for requirements management. Obtains input from, and agreement to requirements from a diverse range of stakeholders. Negotiates with stakeholders to manage competing priorities and conflicts. Establishes requirements baselines. Ensures changes to requirements are investigated and managed.
- Provides definitive and expert advice in their specialist area. Actively maintains recognised expert level knowledge in one or more identifiable specialisms. Oversees the provision of specialist advice by others. Consolidates expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to provide coherent advice to further organisational objectives. Supports and promotes the development and sharing of specialist knowledge within the organisation.
- Interprets information assurance and security policies and applies these to manage risks. Provides advice and guidance to ensure adoption of and adherence to information assurance architectures, strategies, policies, standards and guidelines. Plans, organises and conducts information assurance and accreditation of complex domains areas, cross-functional areas, and across the supply chain. Contributes to the development of policies, standards and guidelines.
