ABOUT THIS ROLE
ASD is seeking candidates who hold active NV1 or TSPV security clearances. Please clearly indicate the level held within your responses.
Infrastructure Engineers implement, manage and retire the infrastructure (including physical, virtual, networking and cloud infrastructure) that supports digital services.
Estimated start date: Tuesday, 01 July 2025
Initial contract term: Up to 15 months
Extension term: 12 months
Number of extensions: 2
Experience level: Lead - EL1 equivalent
Location of work: Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth
Working arrangements: Onsite. Onsite 5 days a week. Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD's Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA) prior to engagement.
Maximum hours: 40 hours per week
Security clearance: NV1 or Positive Vetting

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing and administering the Microsoft Azure cloud environment, including provisioning, configuration, performance monitoring, policy governance, and security.
- Designing, developing, and implementing highly available, multi-region solutions.
- Analysing existing operational standards, processes, and governance to identify and implement improvements.
- Developing IaC using cloud-native tools for automated and consistent platform deployments.
- Implementing policy-driven data protection practices to safeguard cloud solutions from data loss.
- Supporting the cloud adoption of applications as they are transformed and modernised.
- Ensuring all infrastructure components meet proper performance and capacity standards.
- Providing mentorship and guidance to junior cloud engineers.
- Sharing best practices, architectural patterns, and lessons learned.
- Reviewing code and provide constructive feedback.
Technical Skills:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in an Infrastructure Engineer role or equivalent.
- Bachelor Degree in information technology or a related field, or holds certification in virtualization accreditation and experience (preferred)
- Strong technical background in hosted services environments including hardware, software, virtualization and storage.
- Knowledge and experience within Private and/or Public Cloud technologies, including VMware product suite, Microsoft Azure (desirable).
- Strong technical background in hosted services environments including hardware, software, virtualization, storage, and container orchestration.
- Knowledge of Operating Systems.
- Sound experience with TCP/IP networking (DNS, DHCP, etc).
- Strong knowledge of security as it relates to cloud based services (desirable).
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE NEEDED
- AVMT 5 - Availability management: Level 5 (SFIA) Provides advice and guidance on the planning, design and improvement of service and component availability. Investigates all breaches of availability targets and service non-availability and initiates remedial activities. Develops plans for disaster recovery together with supporting processes. Manages the testing of disaster recovery plans.
- CPMG 4 - Capacity management: Level 4 (SFIA) Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Applies techniques to control the demand upon a particular resource or service. Contributes to capacity modelling and planning. Supports the design of service component capacity.
- ITOP 5 - IT infrastructure: Level 5 (SFIA) Provides technical leadership to optimise the performance of IT infrastructure. Investigates and manages the adoption of tools, techniques and processes (including automation) for the management of systems and services. Oversees the planning, installation, maintenance and acceptance of new and updated infrastructure components and infrastructure-based services. Aligns to service expectations, security requirements and other quality standards. Ensures that operational procedures and documentation are fit for purpose and kept up to date. Ensures that operational issues are identified, recorded, monitored and resolved. Provides appropriate status and other reports to specialists, users and managers.
- DESN 5 - Systems design: Level 5 (SFIA) Designs large or complex systems and undertakes impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs. Ensures that the system design balances functional and non-functional requirements. Reviews systems designs and ensures that appropriate methods, tools and techniques are applied effectively. Makes recommendations and assesses and manages associated risks. Adopts and adapts system design methods, tools and techniques. Contributes to development of system design policies, standards and selection of architecture components.
