ABOUT THIS ROLE
In the role of Cloud Architect, you will be instrumental in guiding the agency through its cloud transformation journey. You will be responsible for developing and implementing cutting-edge cloud architectures that drive scalability, efficiency and security for our critical applications. Your expertise will be key in advising on cloud strategy, supporting cloud migrations and ensuring our infrastructure meets the highest standards for security and resilience. We are seeking candidates who possess a minimum of SFIA Level 5 experience for this role.
ONI is seeking to engage one (1) full-time labour hire contractor for the provision of cloud architecture services to support its Digital and Data Division. Below is a general guide on what ONI is seeking for each of these roles. The role is to be performed in ONI's offices in Barton, ACT, with flexible working arrangements to be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Security clearance: An active TOP SECRET POSITIVE VETTING (TSPV) clearance is required for this role. Contract execution is subject on ONI clearance recognition which may take several weeks.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Develop and implement cloud strategies that align with the agency's business goals, ensuring scalability, security and cost-efficiency across cloud environments.
- Design and deploy cloud-based architectures, including infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS), platform-as-a-service (PaaS) and software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions, tailored to meet the agency's requirements.
- Lead the migration of applications and systems to the cloud, ensuring minimal disruption and optimisation of resources throughout the process.
- Implement security best practices and ensure cloud architectures meet industry standards and regulatory requirements, including data protection and privacy policies.
- Work closely with development, operations and security teams to ensure cloud solutions are fully integrated into existing systems and workflows.
- Continuously monitor cloud resources for performance, cost-effectiveness and scalability, ensuring that solutions are resilient and efficient.
- Assess and recommend appropriate cloud technologies, platforms and tools that will best meet the needs of the business and provide long-term scalability
- Design and implement cloud-based disaster recovery and business continuity plans to ensure resilience and minimise downtime.
- Provide detailed documentation of cloud architecture designs, implementation processes and operational procedures, ensuring clarity and consistency across teams.
- Engage with key stakeholders, including senior leadership, to provide cloud strategy recommendations, progress reports and technical guidance.
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on cloud technologies, best practices and operational processes to foster skill development and self-sufficiency.
- Drive strategic planning and execution of ONI's Cloud Adoption Program, including integration of cloud technologies and services.
- Stay up to date with cloud technologies and trends, proactively recommending improvements or innovations to enhance cloud operations and business outcomes.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Minimum five (5) years' experience in field of expertise. Formal training and demonstrated application of technical architecture methodology in one or more disciplines, including enterprise, solutions or network architecture.
- Demonstrated engagement skills, including ability to lead complex technical discussions to reach common understanding and agreement from a broad range of technical specialists.
- Excellent communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical concepts to senior leaders.
- Experience working in one or more NIC agencies in a capability delivery capacity.
