Regional Manager - NSW & ACT
How would you summarize what you do at Kinexus in one paragraph?
I lead, support, counsel and provide therapy to all of the consultants, account managers and team leaders in our Sydney office. This covers a number of teams operating in different sectors across Defence and Infrastructure. Also, as part of the Management team I provide strategic input into achieving our business objectives and help to shape the direction of our company.
What do you like best about working at Kinexus?
The chance to work with people who want to be the best they can be and learn & develop their skills. The culture is one of a high performing company who also have fun. It provides the opportunity to work with people who want to be the best they can be whilst learning & developing their skills.
What has been your least favourite job and why?
Not had a least favourite job really – my initiation into recruitment was pretty tough and taught me to be resilient. I spent 12 months attempting to convince clients to take on Shipbuilding/Ship repair contractors when there were no sips being built or repaired in the UK.
What do you see as the next big game changer within the industry?
How companies access good candidates, but most importantly how quickly companies adapt to the changes this will bring. Top candidates will become more and more scarce and we can already see traditional methods not working. Yet there are still people out there who are hiring and expect to be able to advertise a role and receive a number of quality applications. Every platform we know is becoming less relevant and we are seeing them having to adapt to stay relevant, such as LinkedIn and seek. Those that do not adapt to stay relevant will get left behind.
What words of Wisdom would you pass onto your childhood self?
The early bird catches the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese.
Do not get upset at people or situations, both are powerless without your reaction.
Never regret anything, nothing is a waste of time, everything you do, good or bad is a lesson
What 2 things are you most grateful for?
I made the choice to come to Sydney not really knowing what I had taken on but determined to make the most of whatever the opportunity was when I got here. So I am most grateful for the opportunity to build a life here and for my two girls and the opportunity it gives them.
Who’s your personal hero?
Robert Nesta Marley & Dave Grohl.
Both talented people who use their talents for good and have or had an interesting view on the world.
