Job interviews are one of the most important stages of any job application process. Interviews help a prospective employer build their knowledge of you and get a sense of whether you are a good fit for their organisation. This is particularly important in Defence Industry, where collaboration and cohesion are key to project delivery. How you come across in an interview represents what an employer can expect from you moving forward, so it’s imperative you put your best foot forward from the very start. To make the most of the current and upcoming opportunities, follow these ten tips for interviewing in Defence Industry.

Why You Should Consider a Career in Defence Industry

By Kinexus on 4 October 2018
There has never been a better time to develop a career in the Defence Industry. The industry is growing and changing rapidly, with large and exciting projects coming online all the time. With a focus on upgrades, innovation and system integration there will be more jobs available than ever before. Despite the opportunities this presents, the industry is facing a lack of available talent to deliver on committed projects. As a result, many organisations have started looking outside of Defence Industry to source their workforce. While you may be concerned your previous experience or skills are not transferable to Defence Industry, some careful adjustment of how you present these will help you appeal to more defence employers. The Best Way to Connect with Someone You Professionally Admire

By Kinexus on 27 September 2018
Networking is the cornerstone to success in any career. It opens new avenues and perspectives and creates access to the latest industry news. Although it’s easy enough to turn a coworker or a peer into a network connection, interacting with those within your direct network will only get you so far. Some military careers prepare people for an easy transition into industry; formal engineering qualifications for example. However, what of those men and women who dedicated years of their life to more operational or less technical roles? How do they translate their skills into a way commercial companies understand?

The Highlight Reel from the HunterNet Defence Conference

By Kinexus on 13 September 2018
I attended the HunterNet Defence Conference at the end of August. It was my first in a few years, so it was interesting to see the change in ‘vibe’.  Matt Hall, former RAAF fast jet pilot and Red Bull Air Race competitor kicked things off, wowing us with his amazing flying skills as he manoeuvred his racing aircraft above us. Matt generously donated his time and resources, and impressed us that evening as guest speaker at the conference dinner.  Into the conference the next day, there were three main themes.

What to Consider Before Applying for a Role Interstate

By Kinexus on 30 August 2018
Before applying for that great interstate role you saw advertised or expressing your interest in a project located on the other side of Australia, there are a few things you should consider first. Not being prepared for the move and the logistics that come with it can significantly impact your ability to shine as the best candidate for the job. We often work with people considering a move interstate; sometimes for clear reasons such as to be closer to family or to return home. However, career growth is usually the driver. Be that for a promotion or to be involved in a specific project. With the current defence spend and big exciting projects kicking off across the country the temptation to apply for a role interstate is higher than ever. Whether you‘re willing to relocate ‘for the right role’ or have a specific project you want to work on, doing your groundwork will help you work out if an interstate opportunity is something you can seriously consider.
